Favorite Things

I've been thinking about how fast AJ is growing up! It seems hard to believe that I've been back at work for over 4 months.

One thing I know I don't like is pumping at work. AJ eats mostly breastmilk and it is so good for her (not to mention the cost savings over formula!). I enjoy nursing her to sleep, but when she is awake it can be a bit difficult since she just wants to look all over the place. Nursing her is one of my favorite things.

AJ can't decide if she likes eating "real" food or not. Some days, like today, she couldn't get enough of the oatmeal and the homemade sweet potato puree. We introduced her to "puffs" this week, they look like cereal but dissolve when she has them in her mouth for a few seconds. She really wants to feed them to herself but she can't quite get "pincer" grasp that is needed to pick one up. She is using her whole hand right now and holds the puff in the center of her hand and shoves her hand in her mouth. She is then displeased when she takes her hand out of her mouth the the puff didn't stay behind. When I feed her one she grabs my hand and brings the puff into her mouth.

In the past few months she has also gotten much more responsive when Sean and I play with her. Playing with AJ, I know, is one of Sean's favorite things.

She already has so many opinions, and she lets us know when she likes something by flinging herself it the direction of the thing she wants. She loves to watch Baron and will reach out to him so that he can kiss her and she can pet him (and try to lovingly gouge out his bug-eyes). Sometimes, she just watches him do something (like chase his tail) and laughs.

She also loves her Sophie and will squeak Sophie while I drive home. I can hear squeak squeak squeak coming from her car seat.

Here is AJ with Baron and Sophie:

Sean and I have made a commitment to our family to take walks after dinner (when the weather is good). AJ has just started riding in her stroller like a big girl and she is a little unnerved by the new POV. But she can't get enough of looking from side to side at all of the things we pass. She especially likes to look for a dog when she hears one barking. The walks are also good for Baron. He has been quite a sad little dog since I've gone back to work. Sean and I are just starting to get back the energy to take better care of him. Walking is one of my favorite things.

Besides mommy, daddy, and Baron, AJ loves her paci. She is very deft at putting it in her mouth, and taking it back out so she can cry. I know that paci will probably bring us some heart ache down the line when we have to get rid of it, but for now it is giving us a happy baby.
